THE:SORORITY Sisters Meet Up – Let’s talk about Female Health!
Women and people perceived as women make up nearly half of the world’s population, yet often we don’t get the medical attention we deserve. From a historic point of view, medical research was often male-dominated, with men treated as the default standard due to concerns about women’s hormonal cycles and potential risks to fetal development.
But that also means that we have a huge gender health gap, where women — and those perceived as women — are overlooked, as our bodies are different, as are symptoms and disease indicators. Moreover, Medicine should serve everyone equally — but it doesn’t. Black women, migrant women, and people of color often face systemic disadvantage within the healthcare system.
In our upcoming Sisters MeetUp we will focus on one of the most essential — yet often under-discussed — topics: female health. Join us for our monthly networking meeting where we will welcome MedinUnity Executive Board, a collective of doctors and professionals advocating for medical research and practice that take gender differences seriously and are grounded in up-to-date scientific evidence.
Together, we’ll explore how women’s health is shaped by medicine, society, and solidarity — and what can be done for better care and understanding.
